Westminster College
Westminster College, Salt Lake City

South Asian Studies Association conferences are known for creating a relaxed atmosphere in which scholars, researchers and students can meet and discuss and exchange ideas pertaining the richness of South Asia's peoples, cultures, histories, issues and opportunities.

Senior and beginning scholars from all parts of the US, Europe, and South Asia find a collegial environment in which to strive for personal enrichment and send a strong signal that South Asian Studies programs need to figure prominently in academia across the globe.

The presentations at SASA conferences are strongly inter-disciplinary and increase cross-cultural understanding of the South Asian subcontinent and the regions that have influenced the modern societies found there over the course of a long history.

Conference registration includes morning and afternoon networking opportunities (a.k.a. coffee breaks), two luncheons and our awards banquet.

Our major speakers will include, among others:

Tamil scholar Alexander Dubiansky, Moscow State University Alexandre Dubiansky

To facilitate this broad approach to South Asian studies, SASA welcomes papers from all academic disciplines and all periods of time that address the rich tapestry that is South Asia's past, present and future.

We also encourage university students interested in any facet of South Asian life or scholarship to join us at this conference.

Westminster College, founded in 1875, is the only private liberal arts college in Utah. With an enrollment of nearly 3,000, Westminster offers both undergraduate and masters degrees. It is particularly attractive to SASA because Westminster is the only college in Utah with an ongoing program of service to India. As an organization we both applaud and seek to promote such educational outreach.

Westminster is about 15 minutes by cab from the Salt Lake City airport and two miles from the University of Utah.

SASA accepts paper and panel submissions online through THIS ONLINE FORM. Answers to questions about conference accommodations, access, travel links, program details, and more are answered on various pages on this website. The deadline for submissions is February 1, 2014. The deadline for those needing a US visa is January 15, 2014.
